Davis Skeletal Bus Lanes
This proposal places exclusive bus lanes on both Russell/5th and 2nd, with a smaller pedestrian mall on the latter. Such bus lanes have been strategically placed on the most congested sections of streets that see heavy bus usage The elimination of on-street parking on several blocks, the G Street Parking Lot, and the creation of the 2nd Street Pedestrian Mall between C and E Streets will ensure buses continue to move unimpeded through their lanes by cutting down cruising for parking, through-traffic, and parked cars (or cars otherwise attempting to park) from blocking the bus lane. This is a skeletal system, and a more ambitious plan or future expansion would eliminate on-street parking from Downtown altogether and extend the Russell/5th bus lanes to Pole Line Rd.
