Description

This plan seeks to improve the efficacy of the lackluster OC Streetcar while also transforming downtown into a more impactful transit hub. Some streets have been fully pedestrianized to soften the impact of vehicular traffic intermingling with the streetcar. Main and 1st Streets have been reimagined as critical bus corridors, with tendrils reaching out to accommodate frequent and convenient connections to the broader OCTA grid of bus services--especially the Harbor, Euler, and Bristol Corridors. It is critical no parking spots remain on the major bus corridors or along the streetcar route. Broadway and 5th Street have been made into the principle north-south and east-west corridors for downtown cyclists respectively. Additional sharrows and bike lanes can serve to grow the network with minimal impact. All proposed improvements take place within the bounds of Santa Ana, which would make the studying, building, and maintenance of all of them easier--however a more ambitious plan could see the bus lanes expanded properly beyond city limits.
